Omega

Welcome

Welcome to Omega. We are a mixed ability class of ten young boys, and our class teacher is Miss O'Sullivan. We are very lucky to be supported in class every day by Miss Gomes who leads our interventions and helps us to become the best learners that we can be.

Homework

Each week, on a Friday, we will bring home a reading and homework book. Please spend some time to help us with this, and make sure that homework is completed weekly and returned to school by the following Wednesday. It is also very important that we read at home with our parents and carers 3 times a week to help us make as much progress as possible. Please make sure all of our reading is recorded in our reading records every time we read - our teachers love to hear how well we are doing at home!

Our Curriculum

Our core subjects help us with all other areas of our learning. Within Maths this half term, we will be focusing on the multiplication and division calculations, linking this knowledge to telling the time and problem solving. We will continue to develop our understanding of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, and learn number facts.

This year, Phonics will play a large part in our English lessons. We will be using our phonics to help us with both our reading and writing, through a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts.

Our Science lessons will focus on plants, and their structure. We will explore how plants grow and how they provide us with food, how they feature in food chains, and try planting and eating our own vegetables.

Famous faces

Our topic this half term is focused around 'Famous faces; We will compare the twentieth century and the Victorian era and learn how life has changed; our History learning will be focused around Queen Victoria. Within this, there will be many links to maths, through time and date. Within DT, we will design a party hat for the Queen; our learning within this area of the curriculum will be based around 'The Queen's knickers.' Here, we will focus on sewing and choosing materials for purpose. This will link to Spanish, where we will be learning to name items of clothes. Within music, we will explore a variety of different sounds made by both instruments and our bodies, and find out how we can use these to accompany telling of stories that we know, or stories of our own that we would like to share. We will learn about Picasso in Art, and create our own works of art in the style of this famous artist, whilst in Geography, we will be learning to find new places and use maps as a tool to help us.

This half term, to we will be visiting a church as a part of our Religious learning; we will look at the different features of a church, learn about Christian traditions and find the answers to our questions.

Phonics

Every morning we will have phonics sessions to develop our ability to recognise the sounds used in the English language and how to blend these sounds together to help with our reading and writing skills. Below is a link to the sound pronunciation guide from the Read Write Inc programme that we will be following.
